About me

Louise George. Psychotherapist, senior yoga teacher and mobility specialist, in Douglas, Cork.

Louise George

My first experience of yoga was in England in 1999, while working as a counsellor in an eating disorders service. I already understood the potential of psychotherapy to make a difference in people's lives, but after moving to Ireland with my family in 2007 I began practising yoga more regularly, and came to appreciate the many ways in which yoga can also contribute to our mental and emotional wellbeing.

Having experienced stress, anxiety and eating disorders in my own life, I understand how difficult it can be to find a sense of comfort and ease in your own body. Learning to slow down and reconnect to my body was a significant learning for me. It helped me to recognise just how easily we can become disconnected from ourselves, and how important it is to find a way back.

Over the years, my interest in the relationship between the mind and body has grown, and I have paid particular attention to understanding the role of the nervous system in shaping how we think, feel and respond to the world around us. Nervous system education and awareness has become a pivotal part of my work.

I believe there is no single route back to feeling more connected. Sometimes we need to explore our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Sometimes we need to begin with the body, through movement, breath, or simply slowing down. Often, it is in bringing the two approaches together that we find a greater sense of understanding, connection and ease.

I've been teaching yoga since 2010 and running my own studio since 2018. In 2021 I started YogaConnected, an online library of classes and tutorials which has grown into a community, including guest teachers from around the world.

Beyond my one-to-one work and and regular classes I enjoy offering wellbeing talks, workshops, and yoga and movement experiences for workplaces, schools, and community groups.
